NEW YORK: The 4A's, the national trade association of advertising agencies in the US, has cancelled its 2009 Planning Conference, due to be held in San Francisco in August, as a result of the adverse financial climate.
In an email to members, Nancy Hill, the organisation's president, said "the challenges we face in these difficult economic times mandate some tough decisions and for this reason, the 4A's is canceling the 2009 Planning Conference."
"Given the new budget reality that we're all facing, it seems appropriate for our Planning Conference to take a hiatus until next year, when we relaunch the 'new' Planning Conference as an international celebration of broader strategic thinking," she added.
More positively, the number of entries for the 4A's annual Jay Chiat Awards for Strategic Excellence – which will now be presented during Advertising Week in September – remain healthy.
Hill also announced that the association was working on a "Summer of Planning" initiative, which will feature "webinars", live blogs and other events.
