LONDON: Sales of digital televisions in the UK have outstripped their analog counterparts for the first time, according to new data from market researcher GfK.

The figures show that in the three months to September, digital TVs, set-top boxes and recorders accounted for 51% of all equipment sold.

Ford Ennals, ceo of Digital UK which is overseeing the switchover to digital-only broadcasting by 2012, described the numbers as a "landmark moment" in the transition process.
