Following last week’s devastation in the US, German media colossus Bertelsmann is launching a pan-European ad campaign against terror and hatred via its print and broadcast units.
Produced in-house by publisher Gruner + Jahr and pan-European broadcaster RTL, the ads urge greater communication, expression and compassion between people. They will run in German national dailies, G+J’s local and regional titles, and on RTL’s TV and radio stations (RTL, RTL II, Super RTL and Vox).
Bertelsmann, which last week donated $2 million to New York’s emergency services [WAMN: 13-Sep-01], has also set up a website (www.terroropferusa.de) asking people to give money to help the children of those who suffered in the attacks.
“The attack provoked both sadness and horror, but also showed that people all over the world do move closer together in hours of need – here at Bertelsmann as well,” commented the group’s chairman/ceo Thomas Middelhof. “A wave of solidarity and cooperativeness [sic] has swept our company.”
His words were echoed by G+J ceo Bernd Kundrun: “We wish to send a clear signal of solidarity with the victims of these monstrous acts of violence in the US. This initiative will give German and European people an opportunity to express their solidarity and eagerness to help.”
