German media giant Bertelsmann is planning to introduce a new version of its Japanese online bookshop bol.com which consumers can access via their mobile phones.

Alfred Tolle, bol.com’s vice-president for the Asia-Pacific region, stated that the new site would be launched on NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode service.

This could be up and running “early next year”, said Tolle, adding that it would keep bol.com one step ahead of competitors like Amazon, whose own Japanese website launched a few weeks ago.
