The Council of Better Business Bureaus yesterday announced a new system to regulate the activities of online businesses.

The Code of Online Business Practices will award companies one of two seals if they follow the guidelines for:

* Truthful and accurate communications

* Disclosure

* Customer satisfaction

* Protecting children

* Information practices and security.

The council declared that the new scheme was consistent with that proposed by the Electronic Commerce & Consumer Protection Group in the summer, and would offer companies a way to resolve disputes.
