German telecoms group Deutsche Telekom is contemplating hiving-off its T-Online internet arm into three regional operations.

T-Online is currently Europe’s largest internet access company. The regional businesses would encompass T-Online Germany, France’s Club Internet and the Spanish Ya.com.

The changes are currently no more than a proposal, according to an executive of the Bonn-based company, although they would allow greater control over the online arms’ strategy.

The move would, however, complicate the search for a successor to Wolfgang Keuntje, T-Online’s former chief executive.
