FCB Worldwide has strengthened its eastern European interests with the acquisition of leading Warsaw creative agency Ad Fabrika for an undisclosed sum. It will be merged with FCB Warsaw.

Five-year old Ad Fabrika has annual billings of $10 million and names among its clients Mercedes-Benz, Seagram and Lavazza.

Known henceforth as Ad Fabrika/FCB, the combined shop will be headed by FCB’s local managing director Piotr Dominiewski with Ad Fabrika's former owners and co-creative directors Robert Sieradzki and Andrzej Maruszeczko.

Observers believe that the key strategic factor in the Warsaw deal is Mercedes-Benz, which is said to have demanded that its German agency, Springer & Jacoby, build a pan-European network to service its business. To fund this expansion S&J recently sold 35% of its equity to FCB’s owner, True North Communications [WAMN: 11-Sep-00].
