The City of London’s regiment of rune-rakers [aka analysts] is getting excited at the hefty hint dropped yesterday by French media conglomerate Vivendi.

Said an unnamed senior executive at Vivendi: “Our company doesn’t want to stay with minority stakes and be a sleeping partner like we are in BSkyB.”

Vivendi currently holds a significant minority stake of 24% in the British-based satellite broadcaster but is outgunned by the 37.5% owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News International.

No-one at BSkyB was willing to comment on the situation.
