State-owned French electricity utility Electricité de France has moved one step closer to choosing an agency for its $35 million account by cutting its shortlist to three.

The chosen agencies, all from Paris, are CLM/BBDO, Publicis Conseil and current account holder Callegari Berville. A new round of pitches will commence in October.

The account, starting January 2001, includes all product and brand advertising for EDF, who face competition in the electricity provision business for the first time this year. Media buying will remain with Mediapolis, Paris, part of Havas’ MPG Group.

A further 11 additional assignments, including direct marketing and customer loyalty, have also been put to tender by EDF.
