British broadcaster Channel 4 is on the verge of ditching talks with BSkyB over its new pay channel E4.

A Channel 4 insider reportedly said that a final decision had not yet been reached, but that E4 would probably be owned solely by Channel 4.

E4 is set for launch in January, and Channel 4 is understood to be in talks with NTL, Telewest, ONDigital and BSkyB over distribution.

However, the BSkyB negotiations are believed to have included an agreement withdrawing E4 from BSkyB’s rivals in return for the satellite firm taking an equity stake and injecting capital.
