Central Newspapers, the Phoenix-based family business of accident-prone former US vice-president Dan Quayle, has been put on the market. Central said that it is "in preliminary discussions regarding a possible sale or other business combination".

The talks have been approved by the Quayle family trust which controls around 78% of the company. Central owns fifteen regional newspapers including the highly regarded dailies, The Indianapolis Star and The Arizona Republic.
