The British government is to create a new civil service post at an annual salary of £60,000: webmaster-general. His/her duties will include the supervision of all government websites, including UKOnline.gov.uk – a citizen’s portal to public service information due to go live this summer. The job is being advertised both via recruitment websites and print media.
The new portal has been greeted with much gnashing of teeth by a commercial ISP, UKOnline.co.uk, owned by the EasyNet Group, which is a tad miffed at the branding of the government site with a name near-identical to its own.
