More internet domain names are now registered in the UK than anywhere in the world – bar the US, which still accounts for 60% of the five million new names registered in the period January-March 2000.

The latest figures, which topple former runner-up Canada into third place, suggest “that the UK is gearing-up to lead the international assault in the dotcom space”, according to global domain name registrar Network Solutions. In terms of the most active cities outside the US, London is second only to Seoul in South Korea for registrations.
