A LANDMARK VICTORY against Customs & Excise was won in the Court of Appeal last month by Martin Harvey, managing director of horticultural mail order specialist Plantiflor.

The battle, which dragged-on over several years, centred around the payment of VAT on postage and packing. Harvey’s victory, which applies only to despatches via the Royal Mail and Parcelforce, has far reaching and favourable bottom-line implications for all mail-order suppliers, but his lone fight to overturn the C&E ruling was unsupported by the DMA or any other marketing body - a fact that did not deter DMA director of postal affairs David Robottom from telling Precision Marketing that "a lot of companies that will benefit." ?
