THE PUBLISHER of Marketing Week, Centaur Communications, has been ordered by the Court of Appeal to return to Camelot the leaked documents which exposed the National Lottery operator’s 40% bonuses for directors. Camelot is eager to identify the mole/s who passed the documents to the trade weekly, causing a political furore fervently fanned by the national press. Centaur had offered to destroy the papers, fearing their return would incriminate the whistleblower/s but the Court ruled for Camelot, holding that the information had been leaked unlawfully. The law did not enable the press to protect the anonymity of its sources in all circumstances.
