TAMPA, Florida: A potentially dramatic and far-reaching US anti-trust suit filed in 2005 by erinMedia against Nielsen Media Research has ended with a whimper not a bang following an undisclosed settlement between both parties.
The action was brought by erinMedia chairman Frank Maggio, who was trying to launch television interactive gaming channel ReacTV and wanted its sibling company to track audiences using data from set-top cable boxes.
He claimed Nielsen's contracts with "some or all" of the four largest networks – ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC – made it impossible for any competitor to establish a rival TV audience measurement tool.
The conclusion of the legal battle has drawn no comment from either party.
