TOKYO: A meager ten percent of Japanese businesses feel "good" about the current commercial climate, according to a new survey by financial daily Nikkei Shimbun.
Dispirited executives are concerned about Japan's pensions records débacle, which saw the government lose 60 million records; the knock-on effects of the US subprime mortgage crisis; fuel price rises; and an increase in food costs.
The survey also reveals less-than-positive sentiment across most sectors, from department stores, supermarkets and convenience stores, to autos, restaurants and health/wellness businesses.
The survey claims that only the travel and transport sectors are feeling optimistic about conditions now and for the next three months.
