NEW YORK: Omnicom Group has pledged $1.25 million (€868m; £620m) in funding plus a panel of experts to help the ad industry improve its record on hiring ethnic minority staffers.
The world's number one marketing communications conglomerate is responding to a long-running investigation by New York City authorities into Madison Avenue's less-than-distinguished history of employing minorities in senior positions and its dearth of minority-owned suppliers.
Omnicom's eight-strong Diversity Development Advisory Committee has been set the task of:
- Identifying and attracting minority talent.
- Developing outreach programs to raise the profile of the industry within the minority community.
- And working with schools and colleges to foster a talent pool of minority individuals.
