SUNNYVALE, California: Yahoo is to launch a cellphone advertising network enabling marketers to place ads on its mobile services - as well as those of other online cellpone publishers. Additionally, the web titan will offer tools to help those publishers customize content for easier mobile web searches.
Yahoo says the services are aimed at advertisers, websites seeking to attract cellphone users, as well mobile network carriers. Publishers can choose ad formats they want to run, from graphical display or miniature banner ads, to sponsored search links.
The Yahoo Mobile Ad Network will initially include MobiTV, an early leader in delivering television to cellphones, Opera, whose browser is featured on many phones in Europe and Asia, and Go2, a US yellow pages service for cellphone users.
The company says it plans to expand the network rapidly in the coming months.
