LOS ANGELES: Global soccer icon David Beckham's imminent move to the Los Angeles Galaxy team to see out his playing career has his sponsors following in his golden footsteps.
German-headquartered sports equipment giant Adidas, which already supplies uniforms to all Major League Soccer sides in the US, is now reported to be negotiating sponsorship of the Galaxy jerseys.
Ex-England captain Beckham, currently on the substitutes' bench at Spanish club Real Madrid, is also personally sponsored by Adidas to the tune of $10m a year.
Beckham stands to make $250m thanks to his five-year deal with the Galaxy, which is equally delighted to have made a star signing. The player is no longer at the peak of his powers, but this particular game is about branding and marketing, not balls in goals.
