BERLIN: Europe's largest newspaper publisher Axel Springer is one step closer to entering the French daily newspaper market after hiring a veteran journalist to work on plans for a cut-price populist tabloid.
The owner of Bild, the world's sixth-largest newspaper by circulation, has hired Didier Pourquery, formerly editorial director of Metro France, and admits it is contemplating launching a French newspaper in France.
Springer declined further comment on the matter but is known to be delighted at the success of a similar project in Poland, a Bild-style tabloid called Fakt, now that nation's market leader.
