GERMANY - The host nation scored the highest TV audience in Europe for the soccer World Cup tournament, followed by France, the UK and Italy.
According to figures from ZenithOptimedia's Sponsorship Intelligence each of the 56 audited matches was seen by an average 11.8 million German viewers, and the country's cumulative audience totalled 658m. This was up 141% on 2002 figures, and put Germany in third place behind China and Brazil in terms of cumulative viewer numbers.
France came in sixth with 388m viewers, the UK was eighth with 362m and Italy was 10th with 278m.
