The co-founder of the global Hotmail service is now targeting his entrepreneurial knowhow at the world of blogging.
Sabeer Bhatia ten years ago co-devised the system that allows users to access their email anywhere in the world, later selling this to Microsoft for an eyewatering $400 million (€335.9m; £230.4m). Bhatia is now set to launch his latest venture: blogeverywhere.com
Users of the site will be able to download a toolbar that allows them to write and publish their own blogs, while also giving Hotmail users faster access to their messages.
Bhatia, who has invested $5m in the site, believes the technology will benefit developing markets such as India where an estimated 250m online users have limited high-speed internet access.
He is also launching an internet telephony service similar to Skype to enable PC users anywhere in the world to call a land line, or mobile number in India for Rs1 ($0.02).
