The persistent rumours that Jim Heekin, ceo of Havas' flagship Euro RSCG network, is set to migrate to the top job at Grey Global, came to a head Thursday - but remain unconfirmed.

To the frustration of media rumourmongers, Heekin is uncooperatively on holiday with his family this week and can't be reached - while Havas' lips remain tightly zipped.

But those with their ears close to the ground believe Heekin's putative discussions with WPP Group's Sir Martin Sorrell and Grey's soon-to-retire septuagenarian chairman/ceo Ed Meyer, are likely to bear public fruit this weekend.

Landing the Grey job would be a notable turnaround for Heekin - if it happens.

In October 2003 he joined Euro RSCG after being ousted as chairman-ceo of McCann Erickson Worldwide in the wake of a financial debacle that caused Interpublic Group to restate $181.3 million (€149.6m; £103.3m) in earnings.
