The biggest advertiser in the Indian subcontinent, Hindustan Lever, is planning to revamp some of its major brands.
The consumer and household goods giant - Unilever's main operating business in India - will reformulate and repackage its Liril and Lux soaps in the face of stagnant market share.
The firm, whose adspend in 2003 was around $354 million (€272m, £187m) according to data from Advertising Age/Nielsen Media Research, is also putting extra clout behind its skin 'fairness' cream Fair & Lovely, which will be promoted heavily in rural areas.
Says HLL vp Ashok Venkatramani: "We felt the need to kickstart some brands, market shares of which have not improved over the past few years."
