Emerging Industry Overview: Green Construction
Green construction or green building is the practice of envisioning, building, and maintaining structures that are sustainable in their creation and in their upkeep. This can be done with energy-efficient siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition. The primary focus of green construction is to efficiently use water, energy, and other resources to protect occupant health and improve employee productivity, and to reduce waste, pollution, and environmental degradation.
Green construction seeks to reduce the environmental impact of new buildings by siting, designing, building, and operating the structure and site with smart, safe, and effective energy-efficient practices that reduce their influence over land use, water and energy consumption, and air and atmosphere alterations. Because new buildings significantly impact many or all of these factors, green construction has been an area of much study and improvement in the past few years.
