The web is transforming at a staggering rate thanks to the continual rise of consumer publishing, content creation, sharing and networking. The consumer increasingly dominates the way the web works and the experience of other web users. Billions of opinions are being published everyday, which is a massive change in the way that information was previously distributed (the top down model of the traditional media world).

At the same time there is an increasing interest in global and regional web based marketing communications and centralised web strategies. However, there was very little single source data about the web across a large number of markets.
