INT. WHITE HOUSE MEETING ROOM — DAY

A smiling PRESIDENT OBAMA sits at a polished mahogany desk. He is surrounded by members of the Cabinet, Congress, and U.S. citizens, including a child who had been denied health insurance under pre-existing condition exclusions. Breaking into a grin, the President picks up his pen, signing the paper in front of him. As he does, the sound of cameras flashing is heard, soon drowned out by the raucous applause and cheering from the crowd.

PRESIDENT (as applause dies down)
The bill I'm signing today will set in motion health care legislation, legalizing reforms that generations of Americans have fought for, and marched for, and hungered to see. Today we are affirming that essential truth, a truth every generation is called to rediscover for itself—that we are not a nation that scales back its aspirations.
