Universal McCann, the media arm of McCann-Erickson, has admitted that Sony Pictures Entertainment is window shopping for other agencies in an informal review of its (estimated) $250 million account.

Playing down the move, the shop confirmed that Sony is “looking at other agencies, as it sometimes does,” and described the review as a routine way for the company to find the best efficiencies. “This is not a surprise,” Universal McCann insisted. “They told us they were doing this; they told us this a while ago. We have every confidence that Sony will remain a client.”

Other agencies involved in the review are rumored to include Carat and Zenith Media. Universal McCann will not be required to make a pitch, having already furnished Sony with a plan for the coming year.
