Chairman and chief executive of McCann Erickson UK Group Ben Langdon is to replace Robin Kent as head honcho at Universal McCann Europe. Kent was promoted earlier this week as world number two in the Universal hierarchy [WAMN: 14-Dec-00].

Assuming for the first time direct responsibility for a media network, Langdon becomes Universal’s regional director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, combining this with his present UK responsibilities. In the London office of Universal McCann, former managing director Chris Shaw takes over from Langdon as chairman; while Pru Parkinson joins from Western Media to become chief executive.

Langdon, who has a long and honourable career as one of Britain’s leading advertising ‘suits’, is almost equally famed for his pugilistic skills which he drew to the attention of London’s adland in 1993 with a bareknuckle contest on the sidewalk of New Oxford Street versus his then partner Chris Still. History does not record who won.
