LONDON: BBC Worldwide, the UK broadcaster's commercial arm, is to offer its shows for download via Apple's iTunes media store.
The deal, announced Tuesday, attempts to boost the publicly-funded corporation's coffers, following the government's decision to limit its licence fee increase.
Each episode of popular series such as Life On Mars and Little Britain will cost £1.89 ($3.68; €2.50) for viewing on PC or downloading to MP3 players and other mobiledevices.
The broadcaster launched its own iPlayer service in December which makes programmes available for download or streaming for seven days after they have been aired.
Later this year it will unveil Project Kangaroo, an on-demand streaming and download store partnership with commercial rivals ITV and Channel 4.
