BUENOS AIRES: The Coca-Cola Company has locked legal horns with French food manufacturer Danone in Argentina, alleging that its executives were behind a smear campaign to discredit the beverage giant's Dasani bottled water brand.

Coke claims the two executives spread a word-of mouth campaign via the web that Dasani caused cancer and consisted of simple bottled tap water.

It has now filed a criminal complaint in court in Buenos Aires under the country's unfair trade practices law. The suit names two executives of Aguas Danone Argentina and an executive of its marketing agency Euro RSCG.

The trio remain zip-lipped about the allegations.
