LONDON - The chocolate-to-beverages giant this week gave its clearest signal yet that it is considering expanding its UK chewing gum business.
Ceo Todd Stitzer said Cadbury Schweppes would "definitely take advantage" of the market - a move that would pitch Cadbury against Wrigley in one of the few remaining national markets still dominated by the US gum Gargantua.
The latter's UK market share is a daunting 87% compared with the puny 4% commanded by Cadbury's Trident and Dentyne brands.
However, Stitzer appears to be spoiling for a fight: "With the right product and right headspace I think we'll definitely take advantage of a great route to market ... I'm sure we'll do something about it," he said in an interview.
