Fast food giant Burger King has a new head chef in the shape of Greg Brenneman.

The former chief executive of global accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCooper and miracle worker at Continental Airlines is set to swap number crunching for the deep fat fryer, becoming BK chief executive from the beginning of August.

Burger King spends $350m (€284m, £188m) on advertising each year, principally through Miami-based Crispin Porter + Bogusky.

A statement issued by Burger King's board says: "We have worked with Greg in the past and know him well. He is an accomplished and experienced executive whose drive for fast-paced change and enhanced performance will be invaluable to Burger King Corporation as it strengthens its position in the fast-food industry."

Brenneman's predecessor in the role was Brad Blum, who spent just eighteen months in the heat of the kitchen [WAMN: 05-Jul-04].
