LONDON: Admap has announced the first tranche of judges for the 2017 Admap Prize, with senior figures from agencies and media owners among the panel which will be deciding which is the best essay discussing the subject: How should TV and social media be used to maximum effect?

This is the sixth year of the Admap Prize, sponsored by Kantar, an essay contest that encourages and rewards individual excellence in strategic thinking in brand communications. Entry is free, essays are judged by a panel of the industry's foremost thought leaders, with all awarded essays being published in Admap.

From the agency-side, judges include: Darren McColl, Chief Brand & Marketing Strategy Officer Global, SapientNitro; Gemma Craven, SVP, Director Social & Mobile, McCann New York; Jason Burby, President, Americas, POSSIBLE; Kelsey Hodgkin, EVP Group Strategy Director, Deutsch Los Angeles; Gareth Kay, Co-founder, Chapter San Francisco; Guy Murphy, Worldwide Planning Director, J Walter Thompson; and Marco Rimini, CEO, Mindshare Worldwide Central.

Joining them from the media-owner side are Ben Wood, Director, Agencies EMEA, Facebook, and Rachel Bristow, Director of Partnerships, Sky Media.

"As technology continues to evolve at great pace, it is becoming crucial to think of new ways of working," said Bristow. "For Sky Media, bringing together the power of TV and the rise of social platforms to deliver innovative and exciting campaigns is one of our key focuses and we'll be looking to amplify this further in 2017."

Agencies, too, are exploring how they can combine the old and the new to best effect. "How do you strategically deploy the medium to be consistently additive for brands, and not a one off, hit or miss sidekick?" asked Kelsey Hodgkin.

And Gareth Kay welcomed the opportunity to think more deeply about "how we can best use two of the most pervasive and ubiquitous channels available to brands together rather than in the typical semi-connected way they tend to be used today."

The closing date for entries is January 31 2017, and there will be a prize giving event in Cannes in June. Full details are available on the Prize website.
