Newspaper advertising spend totalled $47.9 billion across the world's five largest markets in 2011, with the US (43% of the total) and Germany (18%) the top two nations. Many print titles face falling circulations and ad revenues but some have rapidly grown their audience via their websites. UK-owned Mail Online, the world's top newspaper site, has 43.9 million unique visitors, while Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun, the world's top-selling print newspaper, has a daily circulation of just under ten million.
