INTRODUCTION

Until 1990 the Swedish agricultural policy had two main goals: achieve a 100% self-sufficiency level in food production and keep the income of the farmers at an acceptable level. The Swedish government tried to reach these goals by subsidizing production and export and establishing import barriers for competing products. Due to a growing overproduction at the end of the 80's the government recognized financing this policy was too expensive....
