At the recent TED conference in Long Beach, Calif., Morgan Spurlock, the provocative filmmaker responsible for Super Size Me, talked about his new film, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. The movie, which examines the world of product placement, marketing, and advertising, was financed entirely by product placement, marketing, and advertising.

Sitting in the audience at TED, two things struck me about Morgan's talk:
