A pre-printed, or closed, diary format had been used by RAJAR since 1992. However, due to the growing number of stations in the United Kingdom, new additions to the pre-printed list meant the physical limits of the format were being reached.

Limitations of the Pre-Printed Diary

The continuing growth in the number of radio stations in the United Kingdom potentially puts considerable strain on the current RAJAR diary.

The standard RAJAR diary has twenty-five columns across a page which allows the pre-listing of up to twenty-two named stations relevant to the sampling area. Two of the remaining columns are left blank for respondents to 'write-in' the name of any others they listen to, but...
