Time-shifting and fast-forwarding have been with us for many years. What makes the DVR or PVR different from the traditional VCR is ease of recording, navigation and the degree of control over content — particularly the ability to time-shift and the amount of content that can be saved. Time-shifting is a major advantage to viewers — either to view programs automatically pre-recorded, or pause live TV and rejoin the action where they left off.
