Between 2000 and 2002 the number of visitors to Las Vegas dipped from 35.8 million to 35 million. Analysts blamed the slump on the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and the sprawl of Native-American-owned casinos across America, along with a sudden increase in jurisdictions allowing gambling.
