Founded in 1953, Keep America Beautiful, Inc., is a nonprofit public education program that coordinates national education and awareness programs in litter prevention, beautification and community improvement, and minimization of the impact of waste on communities. In the early 1970s Keep America Beautiful played a key role in raising public awareness of environmental issues with its "Crying Indian" public-service advertising campaign.
