Actor Robert Young's television commercials for Sanka helped make it the leader in the decaffeinated coffee market. The spots opened with Young declaring, "I am not a doctor, but I play one on TV." The opening bridged the way for the kindly television doctor to expand upon the merits of Sanka coffee. Looking directly into the camera with a calm, steady gaze, the actor described the ailments that could be caused by drinking regular coffee (insomnia, irritability) and the value of drinking decaffeinated coffee.
