Marmite: How the 'growing up spread' just carried on growing
INTRODUCTION
This story begins in 1902, when a strange black substance, called Marmite, was launched on the unsuspecting British public. As the brand matured, it was supported by the endorsement of health professionals and became a firm family favourite.
In the 1970s, however, the brand was facing a mid-life crisis. This paper will show how Marmite coped with the crisis and has flourished as a result, experiencing two particularly sharp periods of growth from 1987-9 and 1995-8.
