Measuring the efficiency of community engagement: an ecological analogy

Introduction
The use of market research techniques for non-market purposes is well attested (Mayo 2010; Rixon 2010). Recent examples of IJMR papers concerned with the application of market research techniques to non-market issues include elections and politics (Boon 2012; Pattie & Johnston 2012; Smith 2013), health (Stevenson 2011; McLeod 2012) and community engagement (May 2011). Thus, in considering how to measure the efficiency of community engagement techniques, this paper follows established IJMR practice.
