It isn't at all controversial to suggest that the rise of social media has changed the way we communicate. But some may go further and argue that it has reshaped the way that pop culture works.

That's the view of Tom Ewing, head of content at BrainJuicer Labs, the market research company. And it was the main theme of his presentation to Customers Exposed, an event organised by the UK Market Research Society and held in London in October 2014.
