And at a time when "fake news" – a term applied to inaccurate or misleading information that seeks to advance a particular agenda or simply drive web traffic – is increasingly widespread, the AP's core mission of supplying sound, trustworthy output to thousands of newspapers, broadcasters, digital-content providers and other members of the media industry has gained renewed weight.
