An overview of Chinese digital marketing - GroupM at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity

China had a big presence at this year's Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Not only did Chinese companies host some of the conference floor's most-popular stands, but the world's most populous nation's status as a fast-rising economic superpower was a popular subject at seminars and workshops thoughout the week.

GroupM, in its capacity as China's leading media agency, gave some hard data to back up the buzz in its presentation to delegates, given by Tony Chen, managing director of GroupM Interaction.

China: The macro story

China is the world's second-largest economy, and its third-largest advertising market. The economy is booming: this year's GDP growth forecast is 6.5% for the emerging world - and 9.6% for China. Among developed nations, hit hard by the financial crisis and with high government debts, growth is forecast to reach just 2.5%.
