Any newspaper executive who is married to 'paper' yet flirts with 'new' may soon be in for a bitter divorce.
In the coxmplex calculus that is newspaper publishing, the impact of the digital age cannot be undersold. It is affecting newspapers in three ways:
by creating a news transparency that is driving up information supply while driving down information demand
by transforming the key value proposition of print newspapers from the timely breaking of news to one of analysis, depth, and packaging
by making the experience of perusing classified advertising, notably recruitment, something judged on utility and not on brand.
