To encourage pharmaceutical companies to advertise on Facebook, the social-media giant is relaxing some of its own rules and adding new features to help marketers avoid regulatory pitfalls.

Pharma always has been able to advertise on Facebook by way of sponsored posts on users' news feeds and in designated spaces on the site's far right column, but the highly regulated industry has been skittish promoting drugs on social media for fear of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reprisal.
